Still kickin!

Holy Moly. December is crazy. What with the holidays and making Christmas gifts and working full time I have been so busy and tired! But it had been two weeks since I’d posted something so I forced myself to get some doodles done.

I’m not sure if any of you have ever watched Midsomer Murders before, but I have recently finished watching all the seasons of it on Netflix. I’m kinda sad about that. I hope they make some new episode’s some time in the near future once all the money troubles get situated over in England [or rather the world, really]. Anyway, thought I’d do a little simple drawing of them in memory of their sheer awesomeness.
For some reason I had a hard time drawing Jones [on the left][I think I may have accidentally given him a lazy eye….sorry Jones].
Maybe one day I will master drawing his eyebrows.

And in addition to M.M, I played around with character and color since I felt this Blog didn’t have enough color in it!!!
Pluuuuus a little bit of the colored version of the character I posted earlier in the month. ALMOST done coloring it...so....close.....

Oddly, while drawing the last 4 images, they kept making me think of embroidery....

A Pretty Kind of Creepy

A new character design!
I love characters that are both good looking and kind of creepy. Where you can’t quite make out if they’re a good guy or a bad guy, and it gets to a point where you don’t care either way, just so long as you can continue to hear their witty, semi-sarcastic comments.

While drawing this character I imagine her to be in a puzzle/Murder Mystery/Suspense kind of game. She is the person you go to when you need some back history knowledge to help crack the case, or the person you ask when your stumped over a certain puzzle in the game. Throughout the game the player would have suspicions about whether she is really there to help or just to confuse, and whether she is in fact dead, alive, or just a figment of their imagination.
You wouldn’t discover that she was a ghost till the very end.
I’m contemplating making a simple flash of her turning into ghost form…..

As for the dress, there is something that isn’t sitting right about it with me…can’t figure out what it is exactly yet though….
and at first I thought “dark blue dress”, then “red striped dress”, now I’m contemplating green…..we shall see….
Also, I got into drawing the bodice only to remember that I’d be covering it with a book…good times.

Also…I wish I had more picture layout options…these are cut oddly….
oh Tumblr, you and your mysterious ways….

To add onto my ramblings: I saw Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows tonight.
I can’t wait till it comes out on DVD so that I may watch Watson’s/Jude Law’s hysterical/laughing drunk face over and over again.
That and Robert Downey Jr. in drag.

A Hairy Situation

Yeaaaaaaaaa drawing exercise with hair. Fun times.
Plus tattoos. Win.

I plan to do a male version as well :B

I messed around a little more with the design settings on here though I still have no idea how to go into the html and fix it up. I wish it was as easy as it is on tumblr to mess with the design.
Ah well.

Been working on this for about a week or so I think off and on between work and making Christmas gifts. This is for two of my good friends that have just moved to the U.S and are about to start their future together. I'm so happy for them and wish them the best!!!

December is always so busy!

WHAT TIME IS IT

I love adventure time.

I wish I had eight arms so I could draw multiple things all at once.
That would be amazing.

I can't believe it's November 27th already. Crazy.

Another simple character design

a sketch for good measure

orig sketch at top

simplified the outfit so it would bend more with the pose
feet are fun

And then I colored it! :) This is for my concept class and we were only to color it simply so I thought I would try this style/method out. I should've used a smaller, rounder brush to draw it though lol
Anyway, it was nice to try something different and new! :D

A new kind of beautiful

My first post! Pretty excited about it. Though there are still a lot of tweaks I need to make for the blog visual wise. Though I'm in the middle of finals right now for my last quarter of school! So please bare with me until I can actually sit down and mess around with the HTML. :P

This is a mailer I made to send out as postcards. I didn't want it to be too busy like how most of my illustrations tend to get but I didn't want it to be too plain either. I wanted the vibe to be very calm and meditative, to focus only on the beauty of the silhouette and calm. So I chose really subdued color tones, with the exception of the bright blues in her hair, with a lot of shades of gray.
This piece reflects my belief that the portrayal of "a perfect beauty" isn't what it used to be. I see a lot of mothers and young women who choose to express themselves in more alternative means, and I think that's fantastic. I don't think society should judge them so harshly or think them any less beautiful than the models that have perfect skin with no tattoos, no piercings, and with long wavy hair.

At first I did this first sketch of her hair. And while I love this style/fashion, I thought that it was still too "contained" for what I was searching for. In the end I went with a style that one of my close friends used to have and that I always stared at in awe. Especially when she had the long half of it all nice and curled.

Originally I wanted the tattoo to be of Higanbana flowers [http://homepage3.nifty.com/a-hiropy/higanbana-98.jpg] which fit with the calm vibe I was looking for, but in the end I decided that they weren't working with the form and accentuating it well enough.

So I looked around at some different tattoos online and I started to think about henna tattoos. Though I didn't want it to be exactly henna. So I looked at several examples and took some things from them that I liked and altered them to fit the image and the woman's personality more.

When I was done with the tattoo I messed around some with colors since I thought the red might be too intense. In the end I decided on a calm cool brown.
